The customer’s request 

The customer, a mining company, entrusted Tamini with the supply of a new Submerged Arc Furnace (SAF) transformer to replace the existing old units, to be installed at the nickel production plant in Indonesia. The customer requested that the new three-phase SAF transformer was completely interchangeable with the existing units of the plant from both an electrical and mechanical point of view. A very challenging project for Tamini, given the size of the machine and the wide range of secondary voltages.

Tamini’s solution 

Tamini’s proposal involved the design and supply of a three-phase transformer to ensure direct replacement and complete interchangeability with the old transformer. This solution minimized the downtime required for replacement in the event of a breakdown or maintenance, resulting in significant cost savings.

Project Stages 

During the site inspection, Tamini collected all the necessary information on the old transformer, an activity that allowed it to develop a customized solution based on the customer’s needs. Tamini prepared a detailed project for the offer including several special accessories, such as winding optic fiber and multigas DGA equipment, for fully remote monitoring of the performance and working conditions of the transformers. Tamini finalized the supply within the contracted delivery timeframe, including the shipment to the closest Indonesian port.
