The customer’s request
One of the leading steel companies in the United States turned to Tamini to find a solution that allows a less flammable ester liquid to be used in several of its transformers, including two 48 MVA Electric Arc Furnaces, a new 50 MVA rectifier and a new 12.5 MVA furnace transformer.
Tamini’s solution
Tamini performed a retrofill study for the existing units, including the use of a less flammable, safer, environmentally friendly, durable and low-cost insulating liquid than mineral oil. Tamini also recommended that the new transformers be filled with the same less flammable ester liquid to improve fire safety and business continuity.
Project stages
To meet the customer’s needs, Tamini installed two new synthetic ester transformers and retrofilled the two existing ones, an activity that required a temperature increase of 2° and 5°C compared to the previous units.
