The customer’s request
Acciaierie Venete, a leading Italian operator in steel production, turned to Tamini for the revamping of a 50 MVA transformer present in one of its manufacturing sites. Due to the prolonged exposure to the natural elements, several maintenance procedures had to be implemented to make the transformer efficient again according to the highest quality standards.
Tamini’s solution
Tamini carried out an inspection to assess the status of the transformer and, in agreement with the customer, identified the most critical aspects of the revamping process. Then, the list of technical activities necessary to bring the transformer’s performance to full operational efficiency was defined.
Project Stages
The schedule of the intervention was agreed considering the delivery times of the materials and components required; the customer organized the transport of the transformer to the Tamini service workshop to carry out the following activities:
- Cleaning of the active part
- Thermal treatment and tightening of the active part
- Maintenance of the OLTC performed by OEM’s personnel
- Replacement of the high voltage line bushings
- Replacement of the two existing oil-air coolers with a new one duly sized to fit the cooling needs
- Replacement of the auxiliary cabinet
- Replacement of all the control and protection accessories
- Replacement of the wirings
- Replacement of all valves and gaskets
- Sandblasting and painting of tank, cover and conservator
- Treatment of the insulating oil
- Final testing to validate the transformer
The transformer was finally made available for transport back to the site, where it was reassembled and made available for use should the need arise.
